Bethlehem - Maan - SOS International officials visited SOS Childrens Village in Bethlehem on Thursday as part of a regional evaluation process.
SOS Continental Director (Africa and Middle East) Mr. Aristide Ramaciotti, of Chile, and Continental Human Resources Advisor Mr. Andrew Moir, of Scotland, came to observe the local childrens village operations and to understand its future needs.
The Bethlehem childrens village, established in 1966, is the oldest in the Middle East.
SOS Childrens Villages is the worlds largest private social development organization, focused on non-political, non-profit child development programs. These programs operate through over 450 childrens villages in 132 countries.
Bethlehem programs include a school, an orphanage, social services and aid to at-risk families. SOS Bethlehem is directed by Mr. Mohammed Shalaldeh, who has twenty years of experience with the SOS organization.
As SOSs Acting National Director, Mr. Shalaldeh oversees programs in the West Bank and Gaza, including the care of 153 children in Bethlehem and 130 children in Gaza childrens village orphanages. An additional 1300 children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip benefit from SOS family services.
